Red Sand Project @ The Bridge
Spread Awareness About Human Trafficking
January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
The Red Sand Project is a public art initiative that raises awareness about human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Founded by artist Molly Gochman, the project invites people to pour red sand into cracks in sidewalks and public spaces, symbolizing those who are often unseen or marginalized—those who "slip through the cracks".
By making the invisible visible, the project encourages reflection, conversation, and collective responsibility. It partners with communities, artists, and organizations worldwide to inspire empathy, civic engagement, and action toward ending human exploitation.
THE EVENT
This community event will be held at the Downtown Roseville Pedestrian Bridge. It is hosted by Placer County, the Placer County Children's System of Care, the Placer County Sheriff's Office, and the Placer County Probation Department.
Free red sand will be distributed at the event. Participants are encouraged to share their art and to use hashtags such as #RedSandProject , #RedSandPlacer, and #StopHumanTrafficking to spread awareness on social media.
