Roseville City Council Appoints New Member and Selects Mayor

Last Updated 12/16/2021in News & Press

With the resignation of Roseville Mayor Bonnie Gore in January to take the seat she won on the Placer County Board of Supervisors, the Roseville City Council needed to fill the vacant seat on the Council and select a new Mayor.

After reviewing applications for the City Council seat, the Council appointed Bruce Houdesheldt to the City Council at its February 6 meeting.  With Houdesheldt on board, the Council then selected John B. Allard II to be Roseville’s new Mayor during the same meeting.

Allard will serve as Mayor until December 2020. Vice Mayor Krista Bernasconi will then become mayor. The Roseville City Charter states that the candidate receiving the most votes in a Council election becomes Vice Mayor for two years before becoming Mayor for two years.  Bernasconi won the most votes in the November 2018 election.

The City Charter does not specify a process for filling a vacant council or mayor seat.  It is up to the City Council to determine the process. Historically councils have appointed a member of the community to the open seat.

The Roseville City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the the first and third Wednesday of each month in the City Council Chambers, 311 Vernon Street in Downtown Roseville.
